Earthquakes

Roughly 5,000 earthquakes are recorded in Canada every year. Although the most powerful earthquakes occur near the Pacific Rim, there are a number of Canadian cities that are vulnerable to earthquakes, particularly Vancouver, Victoria, Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City. Our region is in a low risk earthquake zone. There was a 3.4 magnitude earthquake 2 km from Amherstburg in 2018 with a depth of 3km.

Be Prepared for an Earthquake

An earthquake can strike at any time without warning. Each year, between 70 and 75 earthquakes cause damage around the world. Families should develop specific disaster plans to implement in the event of an earthquake.
