Circular Materials Recycling Program - January 2026:
Beginning on January 1, 2026 Essex-Windsor moved to a single-stream recycling system. Financial and operational responsibility for recycling moved from the municipality to the producers of packaging.
Circular Materials is now responsible for operating Ontario's new recycling system with GFL Environmental managing collection on behalf of Circular Materials.
This new system will make recycling easier and more convenient for residents. Instead of separating recyclables into blue and red bins, all recyclable materials will be placed together in a single blue cart. The carts also help reduce litter and offer greater storage capacity.
For full details about the transition to single-stream recycling, including delivery schedules, accepted materials, and frequently asked questions, please visit Circular Materials’ Amherstburg webpage
Recycling Cart Exchange Request:
For those interested in exchanging to a smaller 240-litre cart, please visit Circular Materials' page to access the Recycling Cart Exchange Request Form
Starting the week of March 30, 2026, Circular Materials will start to email residents that submitted for a smaller cart. If you submitted a request, please check your inbox.
Recycling Container Take Back Program:
Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is offering a "Recycling Container Take Back Program" at EWSWA Depots until April 15, 2026. Residents may drop-off unwanted or incompatible blue/red boxes and cards for free where they will be recycled. Recycle boxes/carts must be empty at drop-off.
To learn more, please visit the EWSWA website.
